Horror fans, brace yourselves! Jukai Studio, an independent game developer, has teamed up with renowned publisher Versus Evil to announce the upcoming release of Stray Souls, a chilling, mystery-driven psychological horror game set to launch in 2023. Gamers can expect the title to be available on PC, PlayStation 4|5, and Xbox Series S|X, while a hands-off demo is set to be presented to the press at GDC 2023 this week.
Stray Souls will take players on a spine-tingling journey into the mind of Daniel, a teenager who inherits a house from his long-lost grandmother. Upon moving in, Daniel encounters the mysterious Martha, a woman who seems to know more about the house than he ever could have anticipated. As night falls, sinister secrets hidden within the house and Daniel’s past emerge, and he realizes there’s no escaping the darkness that now surrounds him.
Drawing inspiration from classic Japanese survival horror games, Stray Souls introduces a wealth of fresh gameplay mechanics, such as randomized enemy encounters, item placement, paranormal activity, and dynamic weather patterns, ensuring no two playthroughs are the same. Utilizing the power of Metahuman technology and Unreal Engine 5, the game delivers stunningly realistic characters and environments that immerse players in the gripping narrative.
Steve Escalante, General Manager of Versus Evil, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, saying, “Stray Souls pays homage to classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill while bringing its own spin on the genre with new technological innovations.” The game is developed by a seasoned team of horror enthusiasts who have worked on titles such as Blair Witch, The Medium, Visage, and Road to Hollow Hills, making it the perfect treat for fans of the genre.
Stay tuned for the release of Stray Souls on PC and consoles later this year. In the meantime, head over to the game’s Steam page for more information and to add it to your wishlist.
