Metro: Last Light was originally going to have multiplayer, but in a quick Q&A post on Last Light‘s official page, there will be no multiplayer on the initial release. The focus was shifted to single-player, but the devs announced that they don’t want to throw away work. So? It could still happen.
It seems apparent that the developers want to provide a great experience for the game, and they stated specifically that they could return to the idea after the game ships. They had “prototypes” prepared and multiple ideas of how to do it, so it is feasible that multiplayer in Last Light can still be a reality. Last Light is still expected to be released early 2013.
