Today, Team NINJA revealed new details about Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, the sequel to the previous Vita title. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus has a new “Ninja Race” mode, tag team missions with any two characters, new weapons for Ryu Hyabusa, and pre-order DLC skins for female characters.
In “Ninja Race” mode, players race through levels to try to beat the clock. After choosing the character, level, and costume, players can speed through the level or kill enemies to collect boost and extra points. The mode’s Combo Kill counter increases as enemies are slain, and the higher the counter, the higher the damage dealt as long as the gauge for the combo is filled. Three special essences to the Ninja Race mode boost the player’s chance of succeeding: Green Essence extends the time on the clock, White Essence boosts the Combo Kill counter for more damage, and the Purple Essence gives “Ninja Speed.”
“Tag Missions” provide an excellent way to combine the strengths of any two characters. Players can switch between characters at any time while completing challenges while the other team member is under control by the AI. Players can tactically switch between each character while fighting an enemy to get an advantage.
Players will receive a new weapon called “Emma’s Fang”: a massive sword that can destroy enemies with slow but strong swings. It becomes stronger when bloodied. “Falcon’s Talons” are worn on the hands and feet and can quickly dismember enemies with special attackes including the “Izuna Drop” and the “Thunderous Attack.” Steel-reinforced “Tonfas” are another way for destroying enemies: the Tonfas are used in dual-wield by swinging and can crush enemies with a special “Heavenly Justice” combo.
Finally, for the players who pre-order the Plus edition, there will be a DLC which will provide new skins for the female warriors: Ayane, Rachel, and Momji.
In Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, Ryu returns to the Sigma series to stop the resurrection of the Archfiend by hunting down the stolen Demon Statue stolen by the Black Spider Ninja Clan. Players will fight from Tokyo to New York as Ryu slays enemies and builds up an epic arsenal. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus will have updated graphics and has an all-star cast which features characters from previous installments. A special control system uses the front and back touch screens and the motion controls of the Vita to give players full control. There is a special “Hero” playstyle that engages when the player is low on health.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is made by Team NINJA and published by Tecmo Koei. It is rated M by ESRB and will be for sale with a MSRP of $39.99.
